The smell of AI cute rock
Not about who pressed the keys. About the habits that make lyrics sound like the arithmetic mean of a thousand songs.

“AI lyrics” here doesn’t mean where the file came from. A human can write the most AI-sounding verse imaginable, and a model can come up with a good everyday phrase. We’re interested in the symptoms.
Eight smells
Every verse has the same shape and length.
Once is fine. By the fifth time, it’s a template.
Silence, eternity, shards, flames, the abyss.
Not a mistake or a contradiction in sight.
No everyday breathing room.
First comes “afraid of losing you,” but there’s no action.
Not a single stumble or change of mind.
Thanks, the listener already got it.
Surgery
The second version isn’t “more poetic.” It just contains information you can’t slot into a thousand other songs.
How to revise
Cross out explanations of the previous lines. Find the three most generic nouns and replace at least one with an action. Break the perfectly symmetrical stanza. Add a fact that makes the narrator look a little worse: they texted first, they lied, they came back.
Editing out the AI sound means bringing back a personal life.
The final test
Take away the music and the artist’s name. Can you tell from the lyrics what kind of person this is? Is there a detail another narrator would have handled differently?
For now, it’s a generic song. In the world of cute rock, one living person is usually more interesting than a thousand averaged-out ones.
